What are amino acids?

All proteins in our food and in our body are made up of individual amino acids. They are the building blocks of proteins. Linked together in chains, they form different proteins in different combinations. Each of these proteins and each amino acid has a function. Certain combinations of amino acids have very specific effects in our organism.

There are 21 different amino acids that are relevant for fitness and nutrition. A general distinction is made between essential amino acids and non-essential amino acids. The body can produce the non-essential amino acids itself. The essential amino acids, on the other hand, cannot be produced by the body and must therefore be supported by ingesting an additional portion of the amino acid through food or dietary supplements.

Amino acids, some of which are not sufficiently produced by the body during high levels of sporting activity, are called semi-essential amino acids. In addition to proline and tyrosine, arginine and L-arginine, for example, are semi-essential amino acids.

The amino acid arginine

L-arginine is a semi-essential amino acid. This means that our body can actually produce it itself. However, there are times and situations in which the need for L-arginine is higher than our body's ability to synthesize it. For example, the need for arginine is higher than usual during work-related stress, heavy physical exertion, after hard training sessions or in the case of certain illnesses. At these times, it makes sense to supply the body with additional L-arginine through food or as a dietary supplement in order to achieve the desired performance in all areas of life - whether sport or work.

For your immune system, for example. This is where L-arginine plays a very important role. This is because L-arginine can contribute directly to strengthening your immune system. Especially in combination with a sufficient intake of vitamins and minerals (e.g. B vitamins and vitamin C), L-arginine has a positive effect on your immune system. P.S. A sufficient intake of vitamins generally contributes to the normal functioning of the energy metabolism.

L-arginine is also important for the formation of nitric oxide in the body. According to studies, nitric oxide dilates the blood vessels and thus lowers blood pressure. This is particularly beneficial for people with high blood pressure or hypertension. This is because by widening these blood vessels, our heart has to work much less intensively and the pressure on the vessel walls decreases. If the arginine content is too low, this can lead to circulatory disorders, high blood pressure and impotence.

Foods that contain arginine

Arginine is found in higher doses in protein-containing foods in particular:

  • Nuts such as peanuts, walnuts and almonds
  • Legumes such as peas and soybeans
  • Meat such as chicken, prawns and salmon

Benefits of L-arginine during training

In addition to boosting the immune system, the amino acid L-arginine can increase athletic performance by up to 20 percent, according to a study. Strength athletes and bodybuilders also benefit from this positive effect. Taken before training, arginine can lead to an increased pump effect due to the increased blood flow. This not only looks good, but also improves the supply of nutrients and oxygen to the muscle and can therefore optimize performance.

L-arginine as a weight loss aid

Last but not least, arginine also has benefits for anyone interested in fat loss. Arginine can increase the release of growth hormones at night. Taken before sleep, it can significantly increase the release of fat overnight and thus support the breakdown of fat.

Application of Arginine Liquid

Shake the arginine product well before use and ingestion!

Dosage for optimum effect: Take 1 portion of 25 ml (see measuring cup) of the liquid arginine supplement daily dissolved in water before training. Do not drink Arginine Liquid straight from the bottle.

The recommended daily dose of 25 ml of the liquid L-arginine preparation must not be exceeded even if there is a deficiency of L-arginine! Store the contents out of the reach of small children. The product with L-arginine is not a substitute for a balanced, varied diet and a healthy lifestyle.

Arginine Liquid is not suitable for children, adolescents, pregnant women, nursing mothers and people who have suffered a heart attack. People who are taking medication to lower blood pressure, are on a diet with a low protein intake or suffer from kidney or liver disease should consult their doctor before taking the arginine product.
